The anticipation centering the grand rally of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in the capital city of Dhaka on October 28 has stirred a wave of speculation and concern among the mass people. BNP, in an attempt to demonstrate for dethroning the government, has declared plans for a massive gathering in front of the Nayapaltan central office coupled with an agenda to turn Dhaka into a city of processions. This rally is intended to be a definitive display of public support marking a pivotal moment in BNP’s ongoing demand for the fall of the government.

BNP’s allies are expected to share the stage during this public rally. However, the ruling party, Awami League is trying to showcase counter-strategies planning their own mass meeting in the Gulistan area specially and every nook and corners to swiftly respond for any possible disturbances arising from the opposition’s movements in the capital.

Amidst this political fervor, the Awami League’s policy-making sources have emphasized the unwavering support of the police administration for the government’s stance. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina herself has publicly voiced her concerns, warning that BNP-Jamaat, if involved in any subversive activities, will not be spared. The government and Awami League policymakers are embroiled in discussions regarding the prudence of allowing BNP’s proposed rally on October 28, with some leaning towards disallowing a rally similar to December 10 of the previous year. BNP, cognizant of the possible consequences, fears the arrest of key leaders and activists participating in the gathering. However, stringent security measures are set to be implemented at the entrances of Dhaka, underscoring the tense atmosphere prevailing in the city.

In a parallel issue, Jamaat-e-Islami has announced its intention to host a mass meeting at Shapla Chattar in Motijheel on the same day. The decision, made during a meeting chaired by acting Ameer of Jamaat, Prof. Mujibur Rahman, has added another layer of complexity to the political landscape.

The opposing stances of these major political entities have left the populace in a state of anxiety and trepidation. Political analysts have warned that failure to achieve a fair solution through dialogue might exact a heavy toll on the entire nation. The looming specter of unrest and uncertainty underscores the gravity of the situation, as the nation braces for the possible transformative events set to unfold in the coming days.
