StrayBird Forum hosts speech session and cultural show

On Saturday (4 November), Straybird Forum of Department of English, Stamford University Bangladesh organized an lively event consisting of an engaging speech session and a vibrant cultural show on the theme "Translating Literature : The Transition of Thoughts Across Borders" followed by a Certificate Awarding Ceremony of StrayBird Students' Committee.

In the speech session, Alvi Ahmed, a renowned author of the time, translator, director and scriptwriter shared his own insights and expertise on the intricate process of translating literature. In his speech, he addressed the challenges that writers encounter when translating literary works from one language to another. Following Alvi Ahmed’s enlightening speech, the honourable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Moniruzzaman, awarded certificates and crest to the Alumni committee members of StrayBird, acknowledging the remarkable contributions to the literary community.

The event then transitioned into a cultural program providing attendees with a delightful experience of diverse artistic expressions. The drama team of English Department also staged the drama “Voice of Shikhandini” (which achieved the position of Runner-up in the cultural contest organized by ULAB in 2023) written and directed by Zakia Noor Matin.

Sheikh Nahid Neazy, the Chairman of the Department of English, appreciated the mesmerizing performance and handed over a token of honour to Zakia Noor Matin.

Aleeya Tamzida, the Convener of StrayBird along with Zobaida Nasreen, the Coordinator of Literary Wing of StrayBird, Sharmin Siddiqui and Munmun Ahmed (Members, Teachers ‘Committee of StrayBird) also handed over a token of love to the director of the drama for the recent achievement. She expressed gratitude towards the committee members, general members and all people contributing to the event.

The students and faculty members of English Department along with the faculty members of other departments added more colour to the arrangement by their meaningful presence.

“Translating Literature” was an event that not only celebrated the art of translation but also left the audience with a deeper appreciation for the intricate process that enables literary works to transcend language barriers. The event proved to be a captivating exploration of the art of translation.
