The historic Dhaka Gate, also known as Mir Jumla Gate, Ramna Gate, situated in the Dhaka University area near Doel Square, is renovated and is now open to visitors.
On Wednesday (January 24) afternoon, the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), Barrister Fazle Noor Taposh, inaugurated the renovated gate. Later, a historical documentary, based on the gate, was displayed. Architect Abu Sayeed M Ahmed gave a brief presentation on the renovation works.
At the time, historian Prof. Muntassir Mamoon, the proctor of Dhaka University, Prof. Maksudur Rahman, local parliament member AFM Bahauddin Nasim, and others were presented as guests.
Architect Abu Sayeed M Ahmed, Professor of the Urdversity of Asia Pacific, supervised the renovation works. The cannon of Mir Jumla, Bibi Mariyam Cannon, is placed beside the west part of the gate. Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) taken the initiatives to renovate the landmark.
