Quality higher education in green campuses

Beautiful buildings on one side and a dense environment in the whiteness of autumn surrounded by shadows – wherever you look in the courtyard of the university campus, you can see the enchanted green.

A natural environment is not only for learning but also for enjoyment. Purbachal American City near Dhaka is now the address of Green University of Bangladesh (GUB). Although this campus has been operating for the past few years, this higher education institution has recently been completely shifted from Sheorapara in the capital.

Those concerned say that since 2019, the activities of the university are going on in a beautiful building with 6 floors. Recently, another annex campus with 8 buildings has been added to this green space. One of which has a modern cafeteria with 25 seats, classroom-laboratory in 6 buildings and eight departmental offices in the other. The regular academic activities of the university are now going on in the infrastructure built in a completely modern butterfly-shaped building.

The scenic beauty of the campus can be seen as soon as one enters through the main gate of the surface university. Rows of trees on both sides of the road are evergreen. On one side of the institution`s administrative building is the Shaheed Minar, open space and the academic building. On the other side, there is an international standard playground made according to ICC standards. Not only that, there are innumerable trees of various species in almost every place around the university. The surrounding nature has increased the beauty of the green campus several times.

Students say, “The new campus in a pleasant environment, there is a little extra excitement. The biggest thing is to get an opportunity to study in a free environment leaving the traffic jam of Dhaka. In that regard, the news of providing international standard playgrounds, indoor games and buses for transportation by the university has added an extra dimension.” 

Expressing the feeling of returning to the permanent campus, Shahriar Hossain, a student of Journalism and Media Communication Department of Green University, said that leaving the brick-and-stone city and coming to nature is creates a wonderful feeling. 

Jannatul Naima Itu, a third-year student of Computer Science and Engineering Department, says, “There are more than 50 buses transportation of students. 

Farhana and Priya who studies in the first semester of Sociology and Anthropology department said that they can study in an open, natural environment in a permanent campus. It`s a great experience. 

Tanzil Hossain, another student of the same department said, "We have to come to the campus to get the feel of the campus. It is definitely a good feeling. 

Those concerned say that more than half a hundred buses including several brand new ones have already been added to the transport fleet of Green University. Besides buses, there are other vehicles including microbuses, coasters. 

According to the transport department, university buses are currently plying on 13 routes for the convenience of students. These routes include capital Sheorapara-Mirpur-10, Shyamoli, Dhanmondi-Ajimpur, Farmgate-Shahbagh, Badda-Motijheel, Jatrabari-Shanirakhra, Demra along with Narsingdi, Bhulta, Gazipur and Narayanganj. University teachers and students from the capital and outside the capital are regularly traveling in these buses.

Green University of Bangladesh also has a state-of-the-art cafeteria under its own management in a pleasant environment to serve healthy food. Here, the interior is decorated with modern chairs and tables, and the cafeteria has a touch of greenery outdoors. Along with this, there is modern fan-lighting and bill acceptance automation system. More than 250 students can eat together in this newly constructed cafeteria.

Acting Vice Chancellor of the University Professor Dr. Khaja Iftekhar Uddin Ahmed said that the main objective of Green University is to develop competent and qualified graduates through quality teaching. Permanent campus is one of the components of ensuring quality education. And for this reason, in accordance with the name of the university, Green has built a `modern campus` in the midst of the green.

The Vice Chancellor said, “The long-standing demand of our students was a permanent campus. As such, returning to the permanent campus is undoubtedly a joy for the entire university family. We are trying to provide maximum facilities here. By increasing this facility step by step, Greene will become a premier university in the country.”
