Stamford University’s aim is to further elevate international standing

During an exclusive interview with The Daily Messenger, Prof. Dr. Moniruzzaman, Vice Chancellor (VC) of Stamford University Bangladesh, shared his thoughts on the country’s higher education. He also talked about his university’s achievements and aspirations.

Question: Tell us more about your university.

Stamford University Bangladesh, established in 1994 as Stamford College Group, evolved into a private university in 2002. The university's mission is to prepare students for leadership in global, multicultural, and technological societies. Our commitment to delivering high-quality education is reflected in the QS World University Ratings 2024. This recognition is a testament to the university's dedication to academic excellence, research, and global standards in education.

Question: Currently, students are mostly technology-dependent. Every day new technologies are emerging. How beneficial do you think this technological dependence is for students' education?

At Stamford University Bangladesh, we recognize and embrace the profound impact of technological dependence on students' education. The integration of technology is not merely a trend but a cornerstone of our educational philosophy, and we believe it brings significant benefits to our students. Through online resources, databases, and digital libraries, Stamford University students can delve into a wealth of knowledge that enriches their academic pursuits. Virtual classrooms, collaborative platforms, and multimedia tools create a dynamic space where students actively participate in their education. Question: How is your university playing a role in research and innovation?

At Stamford University Bangladesh, we prioritize and encourage a robust culture of research and innovation. The recent recognition of 46 teachers in the Alper Dodger (ED) Scientific Index Ranking 2024 is a testament to our commitment to academic excellence. Our university provides a conducive environment for both faculty and students to engage in impactful research, contributing to global knowledge and addressing real-world challenges. Stamford is dedicated to being a center of innovation, where ideas thrive and research outcomes make a meaningful impact on society.

Question: What plans does your university have for the year 2024?

In 2024, Stamford University Bangladesh has exciting plans that reflect our commitment to the quality of education, and global recognition. This month marks a significant milestone as Stamford University is relocating to its permanent campus. We are actively working to enhance our position in the QS World University Ratings, striving for higher standards of academic achievement and recognition on the global stage. Stamford University will continue its commitment to a student-centric approach. We prioritize the well-being and success of our students, offering a supportive environment that nurtures their intellectual and personal growth.

Question: Many students in our country are opting to study abroad for higher education. Do you think the quality of our education is somewhat lagging behind?

It's important to recognise that the decision to study abroad is multifaceted and is not solely a reflection of the quality of education in one's home country. Many students seek diverse experiences, exposure to global perspectives, and access to specialized programs that may be available in certain international institutions. In the context of Stamford University Bangladesh, we are committed to providing a high-quality education that meets international standards. Our focus on outcome-based curriculum, industry-relevant programs, and a student-centric approach is designed to ensure that our graduates are well-prepared for success in their chosen fields.

Question: After completing their education, students are struggling to enter their desired fields. What should we do about this?

We assist students in identifying their strengths, interests, and career goals, guiding them toward fields where they can thrive. 

Question: Where would you like to see your university in five years?

In the next five years, we envision Stamford University Bangladesh reaching new heights of excellence and prominence in the global academic arena. We aim to further elevate Stamford University's international standing, solidifying its place among the top-tier institutions globally. Striving for higher rankings and recognition in esteemed global university assessments is a key objective. Stamford University will evolve into a dynamic research hub, fostering innovation and contributing significantly to advancements in various fields. We aspire to be at the forefront of groundbreaking research that addresses real-world challenges.
