FSB’s 3rd Biennial International Conference kicks off at BAU

The 3rd biennial international conference of the Fisheries Society of Bangladesh (FSB) kicks off focusing on the theme ‘Smart Aquaculture and Fisheries SDGs’ at BAU. 

The conference, spanning two days, began at 10 am on Saturday (February 17) in the Sayed Nazrul Islam conference hall of BAU, organized jointly by the BFS and Faculty of Fisheries in BAU. 

About 300 participants, including 5 foreign delegates, are attending the conference. There will be 170 oral presentations and 70 poster presentations during the event.

Rear Admiral (Retd.) Md Khurshed Alam, Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Maritime Affairs Unit), graced the occasion as the chief guest, while BAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Emdadul Haque Chowdhury attended as the chief patron. 

Other notable attendees included former Vice-Chancellor of BAU Professor Dr Md Anwarul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries at BAU Professor Dr A.K.M Nowshad Alam, Chairman of Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation (BFDC) Sayeed Mahmodd Belal Haider, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Fisheries (DoF) Md Nazrul Islam, Director of the Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI) Dr Mohosena Begum Tonu, and Executive Director of the Krishi Gobeshona foundation (KGF) Dr Nathu Ram Sarker are present there.

During the conference, speakers discussed Bangladesh's contributions to the field of fisheries, successful fisheries research, hilsa resource development and management, fish vaccine development, aquaculture expansion and dissemination, and establishment of a living gene bank, among various other topics. 

Additionally, it was mentioned that the Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute has so far developed 83 technologies, including 71 for fish reproduction and gene pole preservation, and 12 for managing open water bodies for fish. 

These initiatives have played a significant role in enhancing fish production in the country. The crucial steps taken for the establishment of Safe food production in Bangladesh were also discussed further during the event.
