ADUST exclusively held its ‘Moot Court Inaugural’

The Law Dept. of Atish Dipankar University of Science & Technology held inauguration ceremony for its Moot Court on Saturday ( 17 February)  at 11:00 AM on the university campus.

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University, Advocate Liakat Sikdar, presented the University's future plans to the audience and gave a vote of thanks to the guests. He also assured the full cooperation of the Board of Trustees in all future activities of the Moot Court while urging the Law Department to organize an international Moot Court summit later in the year. He hopes to see Atish Dipankar taking a leading role among private universities in this regards.

Justice Abu Bakar Siddiquee, a former Judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh and currently a member of the Bangladesh Law Commission, was present as the Chief Guest. He highlighted the current situation of the judiciary and emphasized that the Moot Court will help the students become efficient judges and lawyers.

Justice Shawkat Hossain, Chairman of the Administrative Appellate Tribunal, was also present as the Guest of Honor. In his speech, he cited the Moot Court as an essential element to make the department more prosperous. Moot Court emphasizes the importance of taking initiative on how to integrate the court into institutional studies.

Professor Dr. Naima Huq, Department of Law, University of Dhaka, was present in the inaugural ceremony as a special guest. She welcomed the inauguration of Moot Court and expressed hope that the students would glorify the name of the university at home and abroad by participating in workshops, seminars and trainings.

Barrister (Dr.) Khaled Hamid Chowdhury, Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, informed the students about the international reputation of Mooting and highlighted how Moot Courts could help them in mediation and arbitration.

Mr. Syed Mohammad Hamayet Hossain, member of, the Board of Trustees of the University gave his best wishes and urged the students to develop themselves as efficient lawyers and judges being inspired by the honorable guests. Mr. Golam Sarwar Kabir, Honorable member of the Board of Trustees,
was also present in the program.

Professor Dr. Mohammad Najmuzzaman Bhuian, Advisor of Law Department, ADUST and Founding Moderator of the Moot Court Society, University of Dhaka, described his experience of establishing Moot Court culture in Bangladesh and the role of Moot Court in the international ranking of Bangladeshi
universities in the present world.

The welcome speech was delivered by A. M. Md. Sayeed, Chairman of the Department of Law, ADUST, and a retired Senior District & Sessions Judge.

Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. Md. Zahangir Alam, presided over the ceremony as Program Chair and expressed his gratitude to the Department of Law in his closing speech.

Other dignitaries present at the ceremony included Mr. Md. Kamran Chowdhury, Controller of Examinations of the university, Professor Dr. Md. Shahrukh Adnan Khan, Dean of Engineering and Technology, Md. Abdul kayum Sarder, Registrar, Advisers and Chairmen of other departments, Co- ordinators, Faculties, and Students, among others. 

Faculty members of the Department of Law including Shilpi Rani Sen, Imran Hasan, Barrister Mamun Khan, Meherba Sabreen, Md. Sakibuzzaman, Mehzabeen  Saida Katha, other officers, and employees also attended the Moot Court ceremony.
