Atish Dipankar University of Science and Technology (ADUST) inaugurated the '1st International Engineering Summit for Sustainable Development' on (4 March) at 11 a.m., which will continue from March 4 to March 8. Faculty members and students from six departments, including CSE, EEE, Civil Engineering, Textile Engineering, Robotics and Automation Engineering, and Fashion Design and Technology, are participating in the summit.
The Hon'ble Member of Parliament and current President of IEB, Engr. Md. Abdus Sabur, MP, was present as the Chief Guest at the opening ceremony of the Summit. He said that to build Bangabandhu's Golden Bangla, engineers should be skilled at leading. He appreciated the brave role of engineers in the construction of Padma Bridge under the visionary leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He expressed optimism that the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at ADUST will play a vital role in producing skilled graduates to build a smart Bangladesh.
An honorable member of the University Grant Commission of Bangladesh, Professor Dr. Md. Sazzad Hossain, was present as a guest of honor. He urged the students to be inspired by the spirit of patriotism and the Great Liberation War. He said, This is the time to build yourself. Mastery of three languages—the mother tongue, the English language, and another language such as Japanese, Russian, etc.—is required. He also said that engineers should make themselves more efficient by developing skills through professional courses along with their studies.
Chief Advisor Shoji Akihiro and Project Coordinator Katsuki Naho of JICA Bangladesh were special guests at the grand ceremony. In his address, Shoji Akihiro emphasized creating skilled graduates. He expressed optimism that such initiatives will enable future graduates to achieve success in careers through strong academic-industry collaboration.
The Honorable Vice-Chancellor of ADUST Professor Dr. Md. Zahangir Alam, inaugurated the proceedings as the chair of the summit. In his welcome speech, he said that the main theme of World Engineering Day this year is Engineering Solutions for Sustainable Development, which he discussed in detail. In his narration, he emphasized the importance of relevant initiatives in engineering sectors to ensure the attainment of Smart Bangladesh goals.
Emeritus Professor of VGTI and former Chairman of AICTE, India, Prof. Dr. S.S. Mantha delivered an enlightening keynote speech at the summit. He joined the proceedings virtually. He discussed in detail engineers' contributions across the globe to bring positive changes to the economy and society. He expressed gratitude to the organizers of the summit for taking such an initiative and wished everyone the very best in celebrating World Engineering Day.
The Honorable Chairman of the BoT of ADUST, Advocate Liakat Sikdar, was present as the Chief Patron. He said that this engineering summit organized by ADUST on the occasion of World Engineering Day is a proud moment for me. He thanked the Japanese government for participating in various development activities in Bangladesh through the JICA and greeted the Special Guest on this occasion. He urged the young generation not just to run after jobs but to become entrepreneurs to uphold the vision of the Hon'ble Prime Minister. He was optimistic that the goal that was set by the honorable Prime Minister would be attained long before 2041 by the walls forming the nation as Smart Bangladesh through valiant efforts by engineers.
An honorable member of the BoT of ADUST, Syed Mohammad Hamayet Hossain, was present as co-patron. He referred to the students participating in the summit as the key workers in building a smart Bangladesh and urged them to make themselves suitable for facing the challenges of globalization in addition to class studies. Another honorable member of the BoT of ADUST, Md. Jonayet Ahmed, was also present as a co-patron. He said, I am very happy with the progress of ADUST and as a co-patron of this engineering summit, the Board of Trustees will fully cooperate in this summit and all such symposiums and conferences to be held in the coming days.
Honorable members of the BoT of ADUST and co-patron of the Summit, Professor Dr. M. Shahin Khan and Golam Sarwar Kabir, congratulated everyone virtually and wished success for the summit.
The co-chair of the summit is the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Professor Dr. Md. Shahrukh Adnan Khan. He presented a synopsis at the summit by detailing.
The summit program was moderated by Mazid Ishtique Ahmed, Chairman of the Department of Robotics and Automation Engineering of ADUST.
In this summit, workshops, seminars, and high-tech training will be conducted by international trainers in nine sessions involving six engineering departments. Through this, the students will get a total of 12 professional certificates. The technical sessions and engagement of industry and academic leaders who are associated with the summit.
