Mosquito menace is making life miserable for residential students at Jahangirnagar University. In every hall and almost every free spaces are abundant with mosquitos most of the time.

Students allege that the university administration has failed to implement effective measures to combat mosquito breeding. Expressing frustration, resident student Abir Shahriar stated, "We are all victims of mosquito bites. Mosquitoes bites us even on upper floors.

The administration's efforts to control mosquitoes seem futile. Spraying with fogging machines only provides temporary relief as mosquitoes return shortly after.

Even students going to study in the central library have to suffer from mosquito bites.  As a result, they are not able to concentrate on reading properly.  In this regard, Al Mamun said, 'We cannot read attentively because of mosquito bites.'

Kabirul Bashar, a mosquito researcher and professor of zoology department of the university, said, "At present, the quantity of Culex mosquitoes in the campus is high.  It is born in impure water bodies, sewers, drains. The bite of this mosquito does not pose any particular health risk.

Abdur Rahman, an official from the Estate Department of the University said, We have sprayed fogging in every hall as per demand.  Our activities are ongoing.
