BAU Celebrated First-ever Veterinary Week

Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) celebrated World Veterinary Day by organizing the first-ever Veterinary Week. Various events were arranged throughout the week, including inaugural rally, quiz competition, and poster presentation.

On Saturday (May 11), the closing ceremony of the event took place at 11:30 am in the Syed Nazrul Islam Conference Hall of the university. During this time, certificates and prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions.

The Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science, Dr. Md. Abdul Awal, presided over the ceremony, with the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. Emdadul Haque Chowdhury, attending as the chief guest. Dr. Mohammad Reajul Haque, Director General of the Department of Livestock Services, was also present as a guest of honor. Additionally, Registrar Md. Waliullah, Students’ Affairs Adviser Professor Dr. Md. Harun-Or-Rashid, and teachers and students from various departments were in attendance.

In his speech, the chief guest, Professor Dr. Emdadul Haque Chowdhury, emphasized the crucial role of veterinarians in ensuring animal health alongside increasing production. He stressed the importance of conducting advanced research on emerging diseases and discovering new techniques. He mentioned that Bangladesh imports more than 4 million vaccines annually, hence there is a need to focus on vaccine production. He suggested establishing independent research institutes for veterinarians and initiating community veterinary education. He also discussed the establishment of the Bangladesh College of Veterinary Surgeons.
