IU Teachers observe work abstention for 4 hours

The teachers of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia have observed work abstention for four hours on Tuesday to demand the withdrawal of the pension scheme, which has been recently issued by the Ministry of Finance.

The Islamic University Teachers Association (IUTA) organized the work abstention from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, halting academic classes but allowing exams to proceed.

A total of 50 teachers were present at the movement including- IUTA President and Secretary respectively, Professor Dr Anowar Hossain and Professor Dr Mamunur Rahman. Professor Dr A H M Aktarul Islam, Professor Dr Maher Ali, Professor Dr Miah M Rashiduzzaman, Professor Dr Shahadat Hossain Azad, Professor Dr Paresh Chandra Barman, Bangabandhu Parishad Member Secretary Professor Dr Mahbubar Rahman, and Professor Dr Anwarul Haque were also present there.

The IUTA demands the cancellation of the universal pension scheme, inclusion of university teachers in the promised super-grade benefits, and the establishment of a separate pay scale.

IUTA warned to continue the movements from 1st July until the government fulfills their demand.

IUTA president Professor Dr Anowar Hossain said, “If our demands are not met, we will be forced to escalate our actions. All university teachers must unite until our demands are met. We will take further action if necessary.”

Earlier, IUTA observed a two-hour work abstention on 29th may.
