The results of the University of Dhaka exams are not published on time. Although the rules state that the results should be published within six weeks for the semester system and eight weeks for the annual system after the theoretical exams are completed, the university's departments and institutes do not follow these rules accordingly.

The University of Dhaka has nine faculties and ten institutes. In the past year, out of 584 exams, only 37 results were published on time. It is known that the main reason for the delay in publishing the results is the negligence of teachers and the absence of teacher assistants. As a result, students are facing various problems related to higher education and career."

Why there is a delay in publishing the results, The Daily Messenger's investigation has found some core reasos. One of the main reasons for the delay in publishing the results is the teachers' negligence.

Teachers are busy with various personal activities such as taking classes at private universities, attending talk shows, and engaging in other personal works. As a result, they are unable to properly evaluate the answer sheets. This negligence could be solved by implementing the teacher assistant system.

In developed countries, even private universities in Bangladesh have the system of teacher assistants. Under this system, teacher assistants help teachers with their academic work and evaluate answer sheets. Teachers select students who are pursuing their master's degree as teacher assistants. However, the University of Dhaka does not have such a system.

Afreen Sumaiya, a student of Social Science department, said, 'Teachers at the University of Dhaka are busy with various tasks. It is now the demand of the time to appoint teacher assistants in this university. This will reduce the pressure on teachers and provide new job opportunities for students.

The results of the exams conducted by the various departments and institutes of the University of Dhaka are collected by the Daily Messenger. Analysis of this information reveals that among the 149 exams conducted by the departments under the Faculty of Social Sciences in the past year, only one result was published on time according to the university's rules. These departments take 8-15 weeks to publish the results.

For example, the results of the second-year students of the Women and Gender Studies department, which was held in 2022, were published about 30 weeks after the exams were completed. The Science Faculty's image is more fragile. Among the 24 exams conducted last year, the results of only one exam were published on time.

The Physics Department's exam results were delayed by 34 weeks, and the results of the Theoretical and Computational Chemistry Department's exam were delayed by 25 weeks. Each department in this faculty takes around 15 weeks to publish the results.

In the Fine Arts Faculty, the results of 44 exams were published, but most of them were delayed by 1-2 weeks. However, the History of Art Department's results were the latest to be published, taking around 11-18 weeks.

In the Law Faculty, the results were like a golden deer. Although the rule is to publish the results within 8 weeks in the annual system, the results of this department were published 22-28 weeks late. In the Biology Faculty, the results of 40 exams were published, but only 4 were published on time.

Among these, the results of Botany, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Genetic Engineering were delayed by around 25 weeks. The departments in this faculty take around 14 weeks to publish the exam results.

Among the 44 exams conducted by the Engineering and Technology Faculty, only one result was published on time. Similarly, among the 27 exams conducted by the Earth and Environment Faculty, only one result was published on time.

Additionally, among the 72 exams conducted by the university's 10 faculties, 8 results were published within the university's designated timeframe. However, one exam result from the Disaster Management Department took 41 weeks to be published.

Students facing delays in result publication are facing various difficulties. SM Jannatul Naim, a studey from the Printing and Publications Department said, 'Many students of the University of Dhaka apply for private jobs. Some want to pursue higher education abroad.

However, students facing delays in result publication do not receive necessary documents on time. As a result, they are falling behind. Most students of the university want to build their careers in the Bangladesh Civil Service and government jobs.

However, students facing delays in result publication are uncertain about their future. My demand is that the teachers of the University of Dhaka should be more responsible and ensure that results are published on time for any type of exam, so that students do not face any difficulties.

A third-year student of Journalism department Shoaib Hosain Sad said, 'I rely heavily on the results of previous semesters to prepare for the next semester. However, the results of one semester are not published even after the mid-term exam of the next semester is completed. Therefore, I am facing difficulties in improving myself. As a result, teachers should be more professional, Sad believes.

Voice Of the Authority Regarding this issue, Examination Controller Mr. Bahalul Haque Chowdhury said, 'When results are sent to our office from the departments and institutes, we try to publish them as soon as possible. There is no delay in publishing results due to any reason in our office. When departments send us the results, we try to publish results as soon as possible.'

The Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education) of the University of Dhaka, Professor Dr. S. C. Barua, said that many departments have a delay in publishing results. He mentioned that the delay is due to the fact that students have internships and they have to submit reports after completing their internships.

These reports are then evaluated, which takes a long time. Additionally, teachers have a huge workload due to the seven colleges under their jurisdiction. This is another reason for the delay in publishing results.

To address this issue, the university administration has taken the initiative to implement an automatic evaluation system. This system has already been started in one faculty and will be extended to all faculties and institutes in the future. Once this system is implemented universally, the delay in publishing results will be minimized.

On the other hand, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, ASM Maksud Kamal, told The Daily Messenger that there is indeed negligence among our colleagues (teachers) in publishing results. He explained that a teacher typically receives exam scripts from their own department and also from seven colleges. This makes it difficult for a teacher to complete the evaluation process on time.

'We have made some changes to the rules to address this problem. These rules will be approved by the Academic Council and then implemented by the Syndicate. We hope that once the Syndicate approves these rules, the development of this issue will be ensured. Added by DU VC.
