The Dhaka University Teachers' Association has announced an indefinite class-exam boycott and a complete work abstention, starting from Monday, July 1.

In a statement signed by Professor Dr. Md. Nizamul Haque Bhuiyan, President, and Professor Dr. Zinat Huda, General Secretary of DUTA, it was announced that this comprehensive movement is to protect the honor and dignity of the university teachers.

The statement said, "You all are the charioteer of our struggle in this comprehensive movement announced by the Dhaka University Teachers' Association.

The Teachers' Association has formulated the outline of this comprehensive movement with your overwhelming support and mandate. Our movement is to protect the honor and dignity of the university teachers. It is a movement against the interference in the autonomy of Dhaka University."

The statement further said, "The demand to withdraw the inclusion of university teachers in the discriminatory and demeaning 'Protyoy Scheme', the demand for a separate pay scale for teachers, and the demand to include university teachers in the promised Super Grade will continue until these demands are met. This comprehensive work abstention will continue."

The teachers' leaders announced 9 programs as part of this movement:

1. All classes in all departments of Dhaka University will remain closed.

2. Online classes, evening classes, and classes for professional courses on Fridays and Saturdays will remain closed.

3. All exams will be boycotted. No mid-term, final, or admission tests will be held.

4. Departmental Chairpersons will keep their departmental offices, seminars, computer labs, and research laboratories closed. Academic Committee, Coordination and Development Committee, and Question Paper Coordination meetings will not be held.

5. Deans of faculties will keep their Dean's offices, admission tests, and related activities closed. No new student reception program will be organized. No selection board meeting will be held.

6. Directors of various institutes will keep their institute offices, classes, and exams closed. Evening, Friday, and Saturday classes will remain closed.

7. Directors of various research centers will refrain from organizing any seminars, conferences, and workshops.

8. Provosts of different halls will keep their provost offices closed.

9. The Chief Librarian will keep the Central Library closed.

The Bangladesh University Teachers' Association Federation has been vocal against the 'Protyoy Scheme' since the notification was issued by the Ministry of Finance on March 13. Teachers observed half-day work abstention on June 4 demanding the cancellation of the 'Protyoy Scheme'.

They then observed half-day work abstention on June 25, 26, and 27, followed by a full-day work abstention on June 30, and finally announced the indefinite complete work abstention from July 1 until their demands are met. Last week, teacher leaders at Dhaka University Senate proposed the cancellation of the 'Protyoy Scheme'.
