DIU Hosts Faculty Development Workshop With PFW

A 3 member delegation of Purdue University Fort Wayne (PFW) of US-led by Professor Ahmed Mustafa, Professor of the Department of Biological Science at Purdue University Fort Wayne (PFW) has come for a weeklong visit to Daffodil International University (DIU) from 26 June to 30 June 2024 under the program titles “Ignite Innovation and Level Up Your Teaching: A Masterclass with Purdue University”, a press release said on Friday. The other members of the delegation are Dr. Ronald Friedman, the Dean of the College of Science and Ms Farah Amer Combs, the Honors Program Director and Senior Lecturer in Arabic.

Recently a Faculty Development Workshop titled ‘Teaching Research and Service in the Contemporary World’ was held at the International Conference Hall of the university where Dr. Ronald Friedman, the Dean of the College of Science presented the keynote paper. The workshop was also addressed by Dr Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman of the board of trustees, Daffodil International University, Professor Ahmed Mustafa, a renowned biology professor at PFW, Ms Farah Amer Combs, the Honors Program Director and Senior Lecturer in Arabic at PFW, Professor Dr M . Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr S M Mahbub Ul haque Mazumder, Pro Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University. Vice Chancellors, Pro Vice-Chancellors educators of 7 universities and other distinguished guests together for a day of learning and inspiration.

The workshop, held at the DIU premise, brought educators from various institutions together for a day of learning and inspiration with a three-member delegate from Purdue University Fort.  The opening session, themed “Teaching, Research, and Service in the Contemporary World,” featured insightful presentations by these esteemed Purdue University Fort Wayne faculty.

Dr Md. Sabur Khan expressed his vision for the future of education, highlighting the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in teaching and learning. He emphasized the need for adaptability and innovation in education, urging educators to embrace AI and its potential to transform the educational landscape. Dr. Sabur Khan encouraged faculty members to conduct their research, seek student feedback, and continuously develop their teaching models. He also mentioned the importance of collaboration and expanding networks to achieve educational excellence. Dr. Sabur Khan also expressed his desire to establish grants to facilitate the educators’ teaching, research, and service. He also emphasized the importance of adapting to Artificial Intelligence for teachers.

Dr. Ahmed Mustafa emphasized the importance of self-awareness and passion in teaching, urging educators to view their profession as a hobby. He encouraged faculty members to support each other and foster a community that nurtures junior faculty through DIU’s Institute for Junior Faculty. His session focused on the significance of understanding oneself, being resilient, and committing to continuous personal and professional development.

The session was enriched by interactive discussions and valuable knowledge shared by invited guests, including Vice Chancellors and other dignitaries from prestigious universities like Prof. Dr. Qumrul Ahsan, Vice Chancellor of Asia Pacific University, Professor Dr. Abdur Rab, Vice Chancellor of International University of Business Agriculture & Technology, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abdus Sabur Khan, Vice Chancellor of Manarat International University, Prof. Dr. Engr. Md. Humaun Kabir, Vice Chancellor of Prime University, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Masudur Rahman, Pro-Vice Chancellor of University of Business & Technology, Prof. Dr. Gour Gobinda Goswami, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Uttara University, Dr. S. M. A. Rashid, CEO of Institute of Water Modelling and Akmal Hossain Azad, Consultant (Former Secretary, Government of Bangladesh) of Heed Bangladesh.

The guests expressed their satisfaction with the program, with many hailing DIU as a living example of success for private universities in Bangladesh. They also emphasized that this initiative will lead to a collaborative journey among educational institutions and industries both globally and locally.

Professor Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University, delivered the closing remarks, emphasizing the importance of continuous learning and collaboration in the academic world.
