The general students of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) organized a peaceful mass march and submitted a memorandum to the Honorable President through the District Commissioner, demanding the abolition and reform of the quota system in all grades of government jobs.

On Sunday (14 July) around 3 pm, the memorandum was handed over to Mymensingh District Commissioner Didar Alam Mohammad Maksud Chowdhury.

The students of BAU organized a peaceful mass march and submitted the memorandum to the President through the District Commissioner with the aim of calling an emergency session of the National Parliament to pass a law to permanently resolve the existing quota disparities in government jobs.

Earlier, at around 11 am, students gathered in front of the mukta mancha. They then started a mass march and protest rally from there. The students marched from the mukta mancha, passing through K.R. Market and various residential halls, and gathered at Abdul Jabbar Mor. During this time, they chanted various slogans. Afterwards, they proceeded to the District Administration premises and submitted the memorandum to the President through District Commissioner.

Expressing their demands to the President, the students said that an emergency session of the Parliament should be called to form a committee to reform the discriminatory quota system, taking their demands into account. Additionally, false cases against the students should be withdrawn, and their demands should be met to enable them to return to their classrooms. The student community has been boycotting classes and exams for a long time, braving storms, rain, and scorching heat to protest on the streets. They do not want to cause public suffering and wish to return to their studies as soon as possible. The student community hopes that within the next 24 hours, an emergency session of the National Parliament will be called to take steps towards the logical reform of the quota system in all grades of government jobs.

Notably, in line with other universities, BAU students have been protesting for several days on the issue of the quota system, demanding the passing of a law that limits the quota to a minimum (maximum 5%) for only the underprivileged/backward communities in all grades of government jobs. Previously, they also staged a rail blockade and protest rally within the campus premises.
