A leader of Pabna Science and Technology University Students' League (BSL) beat up a student in Pabna Science and Technology University (PUST) over the trivial incident. The leader's name is Rasel Hossain Riyad, he is the former sub-school student affairs secretary of the University Students' League and the former vice-president of the district Students' League.
The victim's name is Golam Kibria, he is a post graduate student of social work department. He was a former vice-president of the university's debating society.
This incident took place on Monday (15 July) at around 3 pm.
The victim Golam Kibria said that Rasel Hossain Riyad and he have been living in room number 407 of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall for a long time. He comes to the room every night around two or three o'clock to study in the reading room of the hall. At three o'clock on Monday (15 July) night, he came to the room after studying from the reading room of the hall. Then he went out of the room and after five minutes came to the room and found the door of the room closed. At one point, Rasel Hossain Riyad opened the door of the room and came to him. Then he started beating up Kibria with his hands and shoes. Later, when Kibria started bleeding, he ran to room number 304. At this time, Rasel broke his phone also.
The victim Golam Kibria said, 'He used to cause trouble in the room. He used to have problems with cooking in the room, talking in the room, turning on the lights. A few months ago he told me to leave the room. He misbehaved with me before but what happened today is beyond expectation. I want a fair trial of this incident from the administration.'
The students of room number 304 said that they heard knocking on the door of the room around 3:30 am. We opened the room and saw Kibria standing in front of the room in a bloody state. Blood is running from his nose to his stomach. Later they quickly called the ambulance of the university and brought it to the Pabna Sadar Hospital and admitted him to the emergency room.
Accused Students' League leader Rasel Hossain Riad said, 'The allegations made are not true. Kibria stays out of the room until late at night. As we do politics we have a security issue. At three o'clock tonight, he came to the room and started knocking on the door, which scared us. I opened the door and saw Kibria standing and talking loudly to me. Later we had a fight, and he attacked me.
PUST Students' League President Faridul Islam Babu said, 'I heard about the incident. If the victim gives a written complaint, we will take organizational steps'.
University proctor Dr. Kamal Hossain said, 'I have visited the hospital. We will sit on it when we get back to campus from the hospital.'
