Jagannath University has officially banned all forms of political activities involving students, faculty, and staff, effective immediately.
The announcement was made by the university's Treasurer, Professor Dr. Humayun Kabir Chowdhury, during a meeting held on Tuesday (13 August).
However, the meeting which took place in the Vice-Chancellor’s conference room, included deans, department chairs, faculty members, and students.
During the meeting, students presented a list of 13 demands aimed at transforming Jagannath University into a model institution.
Among these demands, they set a deadline of 3 PM tomorrow for the implementation of five key demands. One of the key demands was the prohibition of all political activities on campus involving students, faculty, and staff. The Treasurer's announcement was endorsed by the deans, department chairs, and student welfare advisors present at the meeting.
Additionally, it was decided that a committee might established to oversee the student council elections within the specified time frame.
Meanwhile, the university has also issued instructions to ensure that in-person classes resume on Sunday, (18 August). The decisions made by the Treasurer, with the approval of the deans, chairs, and student welfare advisors, have been positively received by the coordinator, advisor, and general student body involved in the anti-discrimination movement.
