VC should appointed from JnU, claimed Jnu teachers and students

Jagannath University`s teachers and students have demanded that a non-partisan teacher be appointed as vice-chancellor.

In the protest march and human chain organized by teachers and students on Tuesday (August 20) at 11:30 am, there speakers made this demand.

The protest procession started from Shaheed Minar, circled Kala Bhavan and Science Faculty and ended at Vaskarya Chattar premises.

Hence, the students chanted slogans like 'If the VC is hired, the gate will be locked', 'We want VC from JnU’.

At that time, the teachers and students said that a non-partisan vice-chancellor should be given from Jagannath University. To stop all kinds of student and teacher politics who will be able to stand by the students with a straight spine, such a vice chancellor should be given.

However, The main gate will be locked when the Vice-Chancellor arrives outside JnU, this time. They also announced not to cooperate with the external vice-chancellor.

Riazul Islam, a student of the law department said that, there is a group of qualified teachers in JnU, but those teachers are being deprived again and again. From now on, all vice-chancellors, treasurers, registrars, proctors and other administrative posts will have to appoint their own teachers.

All teachers should be recruited from the post. We don't want VC (Vice Chancellor) on rent, we don't want any teacher-officer on rent. Wanted non-partisan VC (Vice-Chancellor) with such qualifications, capable of advocating for students' rights. JnU students should be appointed for all posts starting from officers to section officers.

Masud Rana, a student of the Department of Physics, said, "If it is necessary to donate blood to recruit VC from this university, then I will donate blood. However, I will not leave the field. There are many problems in this university. Solving the problem, it is necessary to appoint guardians from your own university.

Asaduzzaman Sadi, associate professor of Law Department, said that the teachers have only been paid, no infrastructure development of the university has been done.This university has been under the rule of the East India Company for a long time. They passed some rules. There was no change in the university's fortunes. Now we want to develop our own university. We have a culture of our own university, that culture and rules will continue.Jagannath will no longer run with DU's culture and rules.

Associate Professor of History Department Belal Hossain said, after almost twenty years, even today, there has been no structural development in Jagannath University. Nothing happened except a building. The reason behind not being  a leadership crisis and the authority of the so-called East India Company. Everyone came from outside and performed their routine duties. A university cannot be run by performing routine duties. Jagannath has the largest number of students after Dhaka University in Dhaka.

He also said, “When a person came from DU as a VC, it took 3 months to understand who he was first. Then he built a ring of his own. Thus he built an administration. This ring will not be allowed to be built.”
