The United International University (UIU) has collected an emergency fund to extend a hand of support to the distressed families in flood-affected areas of the country. UIU students delivered food and essential items to flood-affected people in Burichang Upazila of Comilla on 28 August 2024 (Wednesday). Recently, severe floods in those areas have caused great damage to lakhs of people’s livelihoods.
The members of UIU Social Services Club were divided into several groups to collect funds and relief items for the flood-affected people from the faculty members, administrative staffs, and students of UIU. Their collected dry foods, essential items and medicines will be distributed to flood-affected areas. A team of 23 members of UIU students distributed these items to around 1500 flood-affected families in Brichang Upazila of Comilla.
At present four teams of UIU are in flood-affected areas (Feni, Noakhali and Comilla). Two teams are engaged in rescue operations and another two teams are providing relief assistance. The entire work is being supervised by the UIU Social Service Club. This activity has been made possible with the support from the faculty members, administrative staffs and students of UIU.
Prof. Dr. Md. Abul Kashem Mia, Vice Chancellor of UIU thanked to all the faculty members, administrative officers and students who stood beside the flood-affected people. He also said that UIU stands by the flood-affected people and will continue such activities or cooperation.
