Ensure women’s rights

Women have been discriminated against for ages. It is a question how much the women of financially fragile families are getting their due rights and status even though the women of higher strata of the society get their due rights and status in the modern social system. According to those who research women's rights, even though there are strict laws against violence against women in the country, violence against women is not reducing to the desired level. Women leaders have raised 13 demands to stop violence, including removing all types of discriminatory laws against women.

They made these demands in a short rally at the National Parliament area after the 'Shekal Vangar Padajatra' which started from Shahbagh in the capital on Friday at 12:01 PM. The 'Shekal Vangar Padajatra' was started in 2020 by the initiative of some students. In this year's march, they marched from Shahbagh to Manik Mia Avenue via Kala Bagan with torches in their hands. In the middle of the night, they made various demands with the sound of music and drumming.

The major obstacles in women's empowerment are prevailing superstitions and misinterpretation of various issues. It is not enough to provide legal aid to abused women. Special attention should be paid to ensure that they are not subjected to torture. As women from financially fragile families are more discriminated against from their deserved rights and dignity, it is necessary to take steps to increase their economic capacity in order to establish their rights and dignity. In order to achieve this goal, besides bringing women under quality education, they should also be provided with up-to-date training. In short, if women do not become financially independent, whatever steps are taken to protect them, there may be uncertainty in achieving the desired goals.

Women are capable of building their own destiny, it has been proven long ago. Sad but true, the condition of many women in the society is still depressing. Research is needed on why we have to see this faded image. The constitution of Bangladesh has given equal rights to men and women. But whether women of all levels of society can actually enjoy it, this is also a question. A problem in securing women's rights is the social perspective. Its change is also important. Therefore, besides enforcing the law, steps must be taken to make the people aware.
