A department campaign program held in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences of the Jagannath University to demand the appointment of a Vice-Chancellor from among the teachers of Jagannath University.
On Sunday (8 September) the teachers, students, officers and employees of the university held this program among 16 departments of the following faculties.
This “Department Campaign” program was held as part of a series of programs to demand the appointment of a vice-chancellor from among the teachers of Jagannath University.
In front of Shaheed Minar, the Chairman of the Social Work Department, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Hassan presided over the program.
He said, Jagannath University has been deprived of all kinds of its demands in the past nineteen years. The external vice-chancellors do not consider this university as their own. There is not even one perfect gate in this university. This time the vice chancellor of Jagannath University should be given from among the teachers of its own. Jagannath University family will not accept a Vice-Chancellor from outside. If the VC will be appointed outside, we will actually run the gate lock program.
Ummay Habiba, a student of the 17th batch from the English Department, said, "We now have only one demand, we want a VC from within our university. Till now, we cannot improve our campus or educational quality by appointing a VC of DU. When the VC from our university is appointed, he or she will understand the pulse of us. We can easily fulfill our demands. Above all, we want a VC who will be from our university and will be student friendly."
Khairul Islam Swadhin, a student from the Islamic Studies department, said, "Jagannath University's structural issues are different from other universities. If a VC from our university is appointed, he or she can quickly understand the internal issues and take steps accordingly."
One of the convenors of Jagannath University VC movement, Associate Professor of History Department, Mohammad Bilal Hossain said, “The movement will continue until the demands are met. Today the campaign continues in the departments of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The Business Faculty departments campaign will be held tomorrow and the Science Faculty departments campaign will be held next Wednesday. We do not accept external vice chancellors.
Deputy Registrar Ziadur Rahman said, “There are many qualified teachers in our university. Those who have served with reputation in various universities of the country. We teachers, students, officers, staff, the entire university family have come together in a demand that whoever becomes the vice-chancellor of our university must be a teacher of our university. We will not accept any exception to this.”
Besides, teachers, students, officials and employees of various departments participated in the program.
