Brac University is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Syed Ferhat Anwar as its new vice-chancellor, effective from Wednesday.

Dr Anwar brings over 38 years of distinguished experience in education, research, and management consultancy to the role.

Dr Anwar previously served as the director of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) at the University of Dhaka and is the current President of the Asia Marketing Federation.

He holds a master’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of Dhaka, an MBA from IBA, and a PhD in Marketing Systems jointly from the University of New Brunswick, Canada, and the University of Dhaka.

His academic contributions are notable, with over 70 publications in national and international journals and the authorship of three influential books on business management.

Dr Anwar’s areas of expertise include marketing, strategic management, brand management, corporate social responsibility, and small and medium enterprise management.

He is also the founding director of the Kotler Center for Marketing Excellence and serves as Chief Advisor to the Bangladesh Brand Forum.

In his statement, Dr Syed Ferhat Anwar expressed his enthusiasm for his new role, saying: “I am honored to assume the position of vice-chancellor and look forward to collaborating with our dedicated faculty, staff, and students. Together, we will build on the university’s strong foundation and cultivate a dynamic learning environment that promotes innovation, critical thinking, and social responsibility.”

Tamara Hasan Abed, chairperson of the Board of Trustees at Brac University, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Dr Syed Ferhat Anwar as our new vice-chancellor. His extensive experience and visionary leadership will undoubtedly steer our university toward new levels of academic excellence and innovation.”

Dr Anwar’s appointment is expected to enhance Brac University’s commitment to academic excellence and community engagement, reinforcing its position as a leader in higher education in Bangladesh.
