Inter-department debate competition held at PCIU

The Port City International University Debate Forum (PCDF) organised the two-day long “6th PCDF Inter-Department Debate Competition 2024”. A total of 36 debaters from 12 teams of different departments of the university participated in the competition held on November 8-9.

Team Parinita won the championship, while Team Byangorochana secured the runner-up position. Jahidul Islam Rafi was selected as the best debater of the tournament. 

Drishty Chattogram’s general secretary Saifuddin Munna served as the chief adjudicator in the final round while PCDF’s former convener Yasir Silmy and lawyer Mizanul Haque acted as deputy chief adjudicators.

PCDF’s co-coordinator Md. Nazif Hasan Chowdhury presided over the closing ceremony on Saturday while the university’s vice-chancellor Professor Dr. Nurul Anwar addressed the programme as chief guest. 

PCDF’s office secretary Mahiuddin Maruf and media secretary Bishty Akhtar jointly conducted the closing ceremony while the university’s treasurer Professor Dr. Ganesh Chandra Roy, dean of the faculty of Science and Engineering Professor Dr. Mafzal Ahmed, addressed the programme as special guests. 

The university’s proctor, chairmen of different departments, faculty members, PCDF co-coordinator panel members, PCDF alumni, and members of the executive committee, among others, were present at the programme. 

The chief guest Professor Dr. Nurul Anwar in his speech congratulated the participants and said that participating in debate and co-curricular activities develops human values and social responsibility among students. 

“Winning is not the most important thing rather than participating is the greatest courage,” the VC said. 

PCDF’s co-coordinator Md. Nazif Hasan Chowdhury declared the end of the “6th PCDF Inter-Department Debate Competition 2024”.
