A day-long workshop on Multimedia Journalism was held on Thursday at BGC Trust University Bangladesh, offering students insights into multimedia reporting, brainstorming sessions, questions and answers discussions, and certificates of participation.

The Department of Journalism and Media Studies at BGC Trust University Bangladesh organized the workshop titled “Storytelling Redefined: Exploring Multimedia Journalism.”

The workshop was presided over by the acting chairman of the department Yeasr Silmy while the vice-chancellor of the university Professor Dr. A. F. M. Aowrangazab addressed as chief guest and Registrar-in-charge Dr. S.M. Shoaib addressed as the special guest.

Majumder Babu, Head of Multimedia at The Business Standard, served as the trainer for the workshop, which was attended by 70 students from the Department of Journalism and Media Studies.

Tasnuva Tahsin, lecturer of the department moderated the event while lecturer Muhammad Naim Uddin, the workshop convener, delivered the welcome speech. Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, guest lecturer of the department and Chittagong University faculty member, lecturer and assistant proctor Sarwar Kamal, and Lecturer Md. Nakib were present at the workshop. 

In his speech, vice-chancellor Professor Dr. A. F. M. Aowrangazab said “There is no alternative to acquiring knowledge for excellence in journalism. With the evolving diversity of media, one must acquire skills to thrive in this competitive market. Workshops like these are crucial for equipping journalism students with the necessary skills from an early stage.”

Registrar-in-charge Dr. S.M. Shoaib urged students to develop discipline and responsibility towards their families and the state, emphasizing the importance of becoming skilled and conscientious citizens.

Workshop trainer and senior journalist Majumder Babu highlighted the unique and engaging nature of multimedia journalism. 

“It stands apart from traditional journalism and has a high demand for skilled professionals. Equip yourself in such a way that organizations eagerly seek you out. To work, you must first read and understand a wide range of topics. Be visionary in your thinking and work hard to make yourself an asset that others will actively seek,” said Majumder Babu.
