The Chittagong University authorities on Thursday announced to relocate the Fine Arts Institute from the city back to the main campus by March 31, 2025 in response to student protests.
CU pro vice-chancellor (academic) Professor Dr. Mohammad Shamim Uddin Khan made the announcement on Thursday during a student demonstration.
The protest began at 12:00 PM in front of the university's administrative building, where students from the Fine Arts Institute and other departments gathered, demanding the institute’s relocation to the main campus.
Addressing the students, Professor Shamim Uddin Khan assured them of the university’s commitment to fulfilling their demand.
He said, “We are making every effort to ensure that students do not need to resort to protests. We have already decided to bring the Fine Arts Institute to the main campus. By March 31, when other departments are moved to the new Arts Faculty building, the space in the old Arts Faculty building will be allocated to the Fine Arts Institute.”
“Give us time until March 31. We will complete all administrative formalities by then. It may even happen before that date. I am optimistic that you will be able to start classes on the main campus from April 1,” he added.
CU pro-VC (administration) Professor Dr. Kamal Uddin and Proctor Dr. Tanvir Mohammad Hayder Arif were present during the announcement.
