Islamic University (IU) solemnly observed Martyred Intellectuals Day on Saturday, paying tribute to the brilliant intellectuals who were systematically murdered during the final days of Bangladesh’s Liberation War.
University administration has organized a series of events to honor the fallen intellectuals. The day's commemorations began with a parade, which started in front of the administration building and proceeded to the university’s memorial.
At 10:00am, a wreath-laying ceremony was held at the university's memorial, led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah, Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. Yeaqub Ali, and Treasurer Professor Dr. Jahangir Alam.
Then, engineering and technology faculty dean Professor Dr. Manjurul Haque, theology and islamic studies faculty dean Professor Dr. ABM Siddiqur Rahman Asrafi, Professor Dr. Nozibul Haque, proctor Professor Dr. Shahinuzzaman, Profesdor Dr. Obayrdul Islam, hall provosts, teachers of various departments, political parties, departments, and other organizations laid wreaths to pay their respects.
In addition, different residential halls observed the day by raising the national flag and lowering a black flag to half-mast in front of their buildings as a mark of mourning.
The observance concluded with a moment of silence and a munajaat led by imam of university central mosque for the martyred intellectuals. Earlier, after the juma prayer at friday doa-quran katam was held to commemorate the martyred intellectuals.
