The 54th victory day was observed at Islamic University (IU) campus in Kushtia on Monday, paying homage to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives in 1971.
The university authorities organized various programs to mark the occasion. The day's festivities began with the raising of the national flag in front of the administration building, followed by a procession to the university’s Mukta-Bangla.
At 10:00am, a wreath-laying ceremony took place at Mukta-Bangla, led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah, Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. Yeaqub Ali, and Treasurer Professor Dr. Jahangir Alam. Deans of different faculties, members of the proctorial body, officials of the university thana, hall provosts, teachers, political parties, and various departments and organizations also laid wreaths to commemorate the day.
At noon, IU Vice-Chancellor inaugurated a sports competition as the chief guest. The competition featured matches between teachers, women teachers, officials, staff, and technical associations.
In addition, different residential halls organized feasts for both resident and non-resident students in celebration of the occasion. Earlier, all residential halls and the administration building were adorned with colorful lighting as part of the victory celebrations.
The day’s observance concluded with a special munajaat at university's central mosque and hall mosques after zuhar prayer.
