Comilla University (CoU) students submitted a memorandum to Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Haidar Ali on Thursday (January 16), urging the initiation of the Central Student Union (CoUCSU) election.
The memorandum signed by Araf Bhuiyan (Physics, 2019-20), presented eight demands, including student representation, democratic practices, addressing student issues, protecting rights, leadership development, ensuring campus peace, eliminating political party based politics, and organizing cultural activities.
Naimur Rahman (Pharmacy, 2020-21) said, "CoUCSU will enable independent political practice, ending unhealthy campus politics. We hope the university administration will soon establish the central student union and create an opportunity for electing student representatives democratically."
Md. Iqbal (CSE, 2021-22) added, "We know that Comilla University has never held a student union election, which is embarrassing for us. The absence of student union elections is a major issue. We demand CoUCSU elections to ensure students’ rights and leadership opportunities."
About the CoUCSU election, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Md. Haidar Ali said, "I have received a memorandum from the students regarding the student union election. I have no comments to make at this moment. I will discuss the matter and provide updates later."
