A seminar on 'Spirit of July Revolution and Mass Media' was hosted at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia on Saturday held at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Hamidur Rahman Auditorium, paying tribute to the martyred students who sacrificed their lives during the July Movement.
The event, which commenced at 11:30am, saw the presence of notable guests, including chief guest Prof. Dr. Nakib Mohammad Nasrullah, IU Vice-Chancellor and keynote speaker Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the chief adviser of the interim government. Special guests included Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. Yeaqub Ali, Treasurer Professor Dr. Jahangir Alam and Professor Dr. Hossain Al Mamun, Treasurer of Jessore University of Science and Technology. The seminar was chaired by Professor Dr. Rashiduzzaman, Chairman of the Department of CMJ, and hosted by Tajmul Jaeem, secretary of IU Journalists' Association (IUJA).
The IUJA along with university authorities organized the seminar to commemorate the July Movement's significance and its relevance to mass media today. The program began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, Gita, the national anthem, and a documentary on the July Movement.
The keynote Speaker, Shafiqul Alam said, The country is now running based on reports from the four commissions of the interim government. Within just five months, stability has been restored, economic growth is on the rise, and the crime rate has dropped.
He further emphasized the need for justice, comparing the efforts to prosecute the July Movement’s perpetrators to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s pursuit of justice for her father’s killers.
The seminar concluded with a call to remember the sacrifices made during the July Movement and the role of mass media in continuing the fight for justice.
