Renowned educator and trailblazing researcher Dr. M. M. Shahidul Hassan has joined the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Eastern University as a Distinguished Professor. With an illustrious career spanning decades Dr. Hassan brings unparalleled expertise and a wealth of experience to the academic community.

Dr. Hassan served as the Vice Chancellor of East West University for eight transformative years, shaping its academic vision and growth with his outstanding leadership quality. He also held esteemed positions as a Professor at Multimedia University, Malaysia, and as an Associate Professor at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia, further cementing his international reputation in academia.’

A proud alumnus of the prestigious Department of Electrical Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dr. Hassan completed his Ph.D. from Clarkson University, NY, USA. His passion for teaching and lifelong learning brought him back to Clarkson University, where he enriched students' experiences through Summer School programs in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006. After a distinguished tenure at BUET, he retired in 2016, leaving a legacy of inspiration and excellence.

Dr. Hassan’s prolific research portfolio includes over 75 publications in esteemed international journals and conferences. He has been honored with the University Grants Commission Awards for Best Paper four times and received the prestigious Gold Medal from the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences in 2007. He was an Associate Member of International Center of Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy founded by Nobel Laureate Dr. Abdus Salam. Most recently, in 2023, the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) awarded him the IEB Gold Medal in recognition of his outstanding contributions to engineering education.

His current research interests focus on higher education, teaching methodologies, and economic growth in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). A regular contributor to local newspapers, Dr. Hassan passionately advocates for the transformative role of higher education in driving economic progress in the 4IR landscape. He is also an active member of the Board of Accreditation for Engineering and Technical Education (BAETE), IEB, further reinforcing his commitment to academic excellence.
