For the first time in the country’s history, "Farmers’ Day 2025" was celebrated with grandeur at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU). As part of the event, six outstanding farmers were honored with certificates and commemorative crests for their excellence in competitive vegetable farming.
The award-winning farmers are, Abdul Khaleq from Suhilar Union, Mymensingh Sadar, for cultivating broccoli on two bighas of land, Abdur Razzak from Boira for banana farming on nearly two acres, Abdul Karim from Shailmari for model vegetable farming, Mst. Nurunnahar from Muktijoddha Bazar for integrated poultry farming, Hasna Khanam from Bhavkhali for producing safe, chemical-free vegetables, and Abdul Haq from Mirzapur for exemplary poultry farming.
The event was organized jointly by the Bangladesh Agricultural University Extension Center (BAUEC) and the BAU administration on Thursday, January 30. The celebrations included the dissemination of agricultural technology, farmer training programs, a guided tour of BAU’s farms, and a seed distribution initiative.
The day’s events commenced with a farmers’ rally at 11 AM, led by BAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A.K. Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan. The rally, involving 300 farmers, started from the university’s convocation field and paraded through key campus roads before concluding at the Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Auditorium. This was followed by a seminar with the farmers.
The seminar was chaired by Professor Dr. Mohammad Nasir Uddin, Director of BAUEC, with BAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A.K. Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan attended as the chief guest. Special guests included BAU Student Affairs Advisor Professor Dr. Md. Shahidul Haque and Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science Professor Dr. Md. Bahanur Rahman. Also present were BAURES Director Professor Dr. Hammadur Rahman, Provost Council Convener Professor Dr. Md. Ruhul Amin, and other faculty members.
