The Jagannath University (JnU) unit of Chhatra Dal has submitted a memorandum demanding justice for the alleged terrorist activities of Chhatra League before and during the July Revolution. They also called for an investigation and punishment for those who collaborated with them.
On Thursday (February 6), the organization’s convener, Mehedi Hasan Himel, and member secretary, Shamsul Arefin, along with other leaders, submitted the memorandum to the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim.
The memorandum stated that under the fascist rule of Sheikh Hasina, Chhatra League carried out violent activities on campus. Chhatra Dal urged authorities to ensure justice for these actions and demanded an impartial investigation into those who played a role as accomplices, ensuring appropriate punishment.
It further highlighted that during the mass uprising of July and August, Chhatra League activists and their allies unleashed brutal attacks on students, leaving many injured. In honor of the unparalleled sacrifices made by students and the general public in the uprising, the organization insisted on immediate action to bring the culprits to justice and restore students’ right to fair treatment.
Shamsul Arefin, the member secretary of JnU Chhatra Dal, emphasized that those responsible for the murder of JnU student Sajid, along with all perpetrators of oppression over the past 17 years, must be held accountable through a proper investigation.
Convener Mehedi Hasan Himel stated, “We have fought for democracy, human rights, voting rights, freedom of speech, and a conducive educational environment. Students, youth, and activists striving to restore democracy have been subjected to Chhatra League’s repression. Many opposition-minded students and Chhatra Dal activists have suffered violence on this campus. We demand an impartial investigation and justice for these atrocities.”
The memorandum submission event was attended by central committee leaders, including Joint General Secretaries Mohiuddin Rubel and Shahadat Hossain, along Joint Convener Jafar Ahmed, Joint Conveners Shahriar Hossain, Mahmudul Hasan Khan, Kazi Rafiqul Islam, Nahiyan Anik, Zahidul Islam, Mehedi Hasan Rudro, Mozammel Denny, Hasibur Hasib and many others.
