Unprotected Comilla University without boundary wall

Even 17 years of establishment, Comilla University hasn’t have boundary wall. Therefore, outsiders are setting up drugs in different hills. As a result, continuously fire broke in different hill-sides.

It is seen that, there is no boundary wall on the north-west side of the campus. A few pillars are used to demark boundary. Regularly outsiders get free entry by this route.

Students dissatisfied because of it. Unpleasant incidents often happened on campus. There are also allegations of theft of student's personal stuff including campus lights. Students have also been robbed after sunset several times in the central playground. Outsiders also cause of continuous fire break after taking drugs, told many students.

Previously on March 14, 2020, a fire broke out on a hill of the university. On March 18, 2021, again fire broke out on a hill next to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall. On March 2, 2022, a fire broke out on the hill behind the university cafeteria. Finally, on February 13 and March 1, 2023, there was another fire. Concerned authority also confessed that these incidents were man-made. But there is no action even taken.

Dip Chowdhury, a student, said, 'Since there is no boundary wall, outsiders hang out in the central playground of the campus in the evening. They are sometimes the cause of fire in unconscious state after taking drugs. Moreover, due to the lack of a boundary wall, drugs enter the university and many unpleasant incidents including robberies occur.'

Female students also feel unsafe to move around the campus due to the absence of a boundary wall. Umme Maria, another student, said, 'I often have to stay in the campus till 8-9 pm for various tasks including our student organization. Due to the traffic of outsiders, I still feel insecure when I walk out of the cafeteria to the campus gate. It can't be a campus situation. This would not have happened if there was a border wall and free movement of outsiders.'

Even after so many years of establishment, the reason why the boundary wall has not yet been established, registrar (acting) Md. Amirul Haque Chowdhury said, 'I don't know anything about this matter.'

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A F M Abdul Moyeen said, I was not aware that there is no boundary wall in this university. This wall can't be done in one day. I'll speak to the concerned regarding this matter. If necessary, we will increase member of the proctorial team.
