Two employees of the Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) have been temporarily suspended in connection with the beating of Abdullah Al Mamun, a postgraduate student of the Department of Nutrition Food and Technology of JUST. According to the instructions of the vice-chancellor, the registrar engineer Md. Ahsan Habib signed this office order.
The temporary suspended two staffs are Badiuzzaman Badal, security supervisor of the security and estate wing of the university registrar's office, and Shahinur Rahman, a security guard of Sheikh Hasina Hall. According to the office order, a case (60/384) was filed in Jashore Kotwali Model Police Station based on the complaint of physical torture and serious injury to Abdullah Al Mamun, a student of the Nutrition and Food Technology Department of the University by security supervisor Badiuzzaman Badal and security guard Shahinur Rahman and since the incident Badiuzzaman Badal and Shahinur Rahman being absent at the workplace without the permission of the university authorities, based on the complaint of the victim student, they were temporarily suspended as it is considered a crime according to the general conduct discipline and appeal rules of Jashore University of Science and Technology teachers, officers, and employees.
University employee Mujahid Hasan filed a case against security supervisor Badiuzzaman Badal and Shahinur Rahman Sagar in Jashore Kotwali police station last Friday for beating up student Abdullah Al Mamun. Besides, last Saturday (April 15) at 12 o'clock in front of Jashore Press Club, general students formed a human chain in the presence of about half a hundred students. In the said human chain, former General Secretary of the University Employees Association, Security Supervisor Badiuzzaman Badal, and Security Guard Shahinur Rahman were declared uninvited from the campus and demanded exemplary punishment including permanent dismissal from the university. At that time, the students said that if Badal is not suspended permanently within 7 working days of filing the complaint, a strict agitation will be called after the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday. After the human chain, the students submitted a memorandum to JUST Vice-Chancellor demanding the trial of the two accused employees. On the other hand, the victim student, Abdullah Al Mamun, asked for justice for the attack last Saturday JUST VC Prof. Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain.
JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain said security supervisor Badiuzzaman Badal and security guard Shahinur Rahman have been given show cause notices within the next 10 days. Legal action may be taken against them as per the rules of the University if they get a reply to the notice within the specified time.
