Teachers and staff at Motijheel Model School and College are fuming over the alleged wrongdoings of the recently transferred principal.
According to sources, Mahfuzur Rahman, the newly appointed principal, has been making transfers of teachers and staff without proper consideration, despite having been transferred to the school only a month ago.
Sources claim that the principal initiated these transfers without taking the time to understand the teachers and staff.
It was revealed that Mahfuzur Rahman previously held the position of officer in charge at the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DsHE), as per a notification issued by the Ministry of Education on April 30. Although he was promoted from assistant professor to associate professor by the DSHE, he was not assigned a specific posting.
Allegations suggest that Mahfuzur Rahman has strong political backing, which played a role in his appointment as the principal of Motijheel Model School, despite not being a full-fledged professor. The principal issued the first transfer order on April 26, which included the transfer of two teachers based on a decision made during the 19th meeting of the governing body on April 15.
In the second transfer order (Memorandum No. MMSC/813/2023), three teachers were transferred according to another decision made during the same governing body meeting. These transfers involved relocations between the main school, morning branch, and day branch, causing significant disruptions.
When questioned about these allegations, Principal Md. Mahfuzur Rahman defended himself, stating that he is a parent of a student studying in the institution. He explained that on April 2, he joined the school and assumed the role of principal. Regarding the premature transfer orders, he claimed that they were decisions made by the previous governing body, and he merely implemented their decisions.
Mahfuzur Rahman further mentioned the problem of class coordination, stating that day-shift classes were not taking place and there were no classes in the day branch of the Morning Primary section. He defended the transfers as an attempt to address this issue, which he claimed was approved by the governing body.
However, several members of the governing body disputed Mahfuzur Rahman's statements, asserting that no decision regarding teacher transfers was made during the 19th meeting. They argued that transferring teachers back and forth between the main school and branches was not a viable solution to address the lack of coordination.
Md. Saiful Islam, a governing body member, alleged a conspiracy within a syndicate to appoint Mahfuzur Rahman as principal, despite his alleged lack of qualifications for the position. He praised the previous principal, describing them as highly competent but undermined by the syndicate's influence.
Conversely, Abdul Matin Bhuiyan, President of the Motijheel Model School and College Governing Body, stated that the institution had been without classes for an extended period. He supported the principal's efforts to ensure classes started smoothly and emphasized the need for teacher coordination in subjects with a shortage of staff.
Within just a month of the new principal's appointment, panic has spread among the teachers and staff due to the transfers. This disruption has affected the quality of education and created administrative unrest in the renowned Motijheel Model School and College, which was established in 1980 in Motijheel Colony.
