It is said that Dhaka University, the oldest university in the country, was established on 600 acres of land. However, currently, Dhaka University owns less than half of the 600 acres, or 275.083 acres in total.

Prabir Kumar Sarkar, Register of Dhaka University, gave this information in response to a question of Mirza Md. Abdul Baset, a Senate member of the university, in the annual senate session held recently.

In a written answer, he said that the total land area of Dhaka University is 275.083 acres. The allotment of 51.99 acres land in the Purbachal New Town Project by Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) is under process.

Dhaka University started its official journey on July 1, 1921, with 3 faculties, 12 departments, 60 teachers, 847 students, and 3 residential halls.

Currently, the university conducts its activities with 13 faculties, 84 departments, 13 institutes, 1981 teachers, 35,265 students (till the 2021–22 academic year), 19 residential halls, and 4 hostels.
