Dhaka University gets new vice-chancellor

Prof. Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal has been appointed as the 29th vice-chancellor of Dhaka University. 

On Sunday (15 October) President Mohammed Shahabuddin made the appointment, while the Education Ministry disclosed it through a gazette notification. He will succeed current vice-chancellor Prof. Dr. Akhtaruzzaman at the beginning of next month.

Prof. Dr. Maksud Kamal, elected dean of the Earth and Environmental Sciences Faculty in 2012, was elected president of the Dhaka University Teachers' Association (DUTA) four consecutive times.

He was also the convener of Neel Dal, an Awami League-backed teacher organisation at the university. He was a member of the senate and syndicate of the University. He was also the provost of Surja Sen Hall for two terms.

Apart from this, he is the president of Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers' Association. He was born in Lakshmipur district.
