The 18th foundation anniversary of Jagannath University has been observed on Thursday (19 October). The day-long programme includes tributes at the Portrait of the Father of the Nation, joy rallies, publication festivals, art exhibitions, drama performances, and cultural programmes.
On the morning of the day, the national flag and the university flag were hoisted in the square of Shahid Minar. Later, the Vice-Chancellor (Routine Duties) and Treasurer, Prof. Kamaluddin Ahmad, inaugurated the programme.
Later, at 9:50 am a joyous rally was taken out after paying tribute to the Bangabandhu portrait located in the university. The anniversary rally, decorated with bands, circumambulated the university campus from Shahid Minar Square, went around RaySaheb Bazar and Victoria Park, and entered the university campus. The teachers, students, journalists, officials, and employees of each department participated in the rally under their own departmental banner. The students participated in the rally by wearing colourful t-shirts and sarees.
At the end of the rally, a publication exhibition, voluntary blood donation programme, and annual art exhibition were inaugurated by the treasurer, Professor Dr. Kamaluddin Ahmad. Paintings and other works of art were displayed by teachers and students in the department. Later, the play 'Nakshi Kanthar Math' was staged in the central auditorium of the university under the initiative of the Department of Drama. Also, various cultural programmes were followed by the event in the evening.
