Actor SM Ashraful Alam, popularly known with his screen name Sohag, originates from Mymensingh and has successfully established himself in the domain of tele-drama with a specialisation in negative roles.

Even during his school days at Mukul Niketon in Mymensingh, he showcased his acting prowess on stage. Despite lacking formal training in acting, his ambition to become an actor persisted. Following his studies at Ananda Mohan College, Sohag ventured into the professional world.

In 2018, he seized his first acting opportunity in the drama serial 'Jokhon Kokhono,' directed by Rahmatullah Tuhin. Initially, he acted in two or three dramas annually. However, Sohag harboured a strong inclination toward negative roles. One night, he posted a status on Facebook expressing his decision to quit acting. Director Rafat Mazumder Rinku, upon seeing the post, promptly called him, insisting he would not let Sohag retire from acting. The following day, he was introduced to the late director Sakhawat Manik, resulting in his involvement in the shooting for 15 consecutive tele-dramas in Cox's Bazar.

Reflecting on his career, Sohag credits his resurgence to the synchronicity of his Facebook status and director Rinku's intervention. He gained acclaim for his portrayal of Gulzar Bhai in the tele-drama 'Love Journey,' directed by Imtiaz Tanjim, marking a turning point in his career. Subsequent dramas further solidified his standing in the industry.

Regarding his aspirations, Sohag said, “I view drama as my platform for learning acting. However, I dream of winning the viewers’ hearts through negative roles in movies."

Despite featuring in two films, he remains unsatisfied, yearning to leverage his talent in compelling narratives. Expressing gratitude, Sohag acknowledges the support of his drama directors, co-artistes, and the entire crew.
