Today marks the birthday of the late veteran film actor Razzak, famed as 'Nayak Raj.' Had he lived, he would have turned 82 today. Razzak, the pride of Bangladesh and the beloved hero of the masses, passed away on August 21, 2017, at the age of 75.
On the occasion of Nayak Raj's birthday, various programmes have been planned on different TV channels.
Among the TV channels, Channel i will telecast an array of special programmes to remember the legend. Beginning with the musical show 'Gaan Diye Shuru' at 7:30 am, a special show titled 'Nayak Rajer Char Jug' (Four decades of Nayak Raj) will be aired at 11:30 am. The musical show features singers Khurshid Alam and Close Up singer Rashed, while the special show is hosted by popular film actress Moushumi.
A special programme titled 'Nayak Theke Nayak Raj,' hosted by Abdur Rahman, will be aired at 1:30 pm on Channel i. Impress Telefilms’ film 'Ayna Kahini,' directed by Razzak, will be broadcast at 3:05 pm.
A special episode of the celebrity talk show 'Tarokakathon' will be aired at 2 pm.
Besides, the National Film Award-winning documentary 'Rajadhiraj,' directed by Shykh Seraj, will be aired at 5:25 pm.
Fifty-eight years ago, in the Bangladeshi cinema in 1966, Razzak started his journey in film acting by playing a small role in the movie '13 Feku Ostagar Lane.' However, in Zahir Raihan's 'Behula' movie, he played one of the main roles and established his position in the film industry. Since then, he has acted as the main hero for several decades.
He starred in many notable movies, among which are particularly noteworthy: ‘Abirbhab,’ ‘Bashori,’ ‘Etotuku Asha,’ ‘Nil Akhasher Niche,’ ‘Je Agune Puri,’ ‘Moinamothi,’ ‘Dwip Neva Nai,’ ‘Sharalipi,’ ‘Ashikkhit,’ and ‘Chutir Ghanta,’ among others.
Razzak won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Actor five times for his roles in the films ‘Ki Je Kori’ (1976), ‘Ashikkhito’ (1978), ‘Boro Bhalo Lok Chhilo’ (1982), ‘Chandranath’ (1984), and ‘Jogajog’ (1988).
He was awarded the Independence Day Award in 2015 by the Government of Bangladesh. He acted in more than 300 Bangladeshi and Indian Bengali and Urdu films and also directed 16 films. He is considered one of the greatest actors in the Bangladeshi film industry.
A song titled 'Nayak Raj,' written by Omar Farooq and composed by Bappa Majumder, was released earlier on Nayak Raj's 75th birthday. The song, supervised by Ovi Moinuddin, was produced by Arshad Adnan and sung by Kumar Bishwajit, Fahmida Nabi, Bappa Majumder, and Ankhi Alamgir.
