Runa Khan embodies surprise, a quality she has consistently demonstrated through her diverse on-screen roles. Over two decades, she has delighted audiences with a range of performances, each offering a unique flavour.
Adding to the element of surprise is her latest endeavour—her inaugural experience on the runway. This time, the actress took centre stage as the showstopper at the Khadi Festival held at the Aloki Convention Centre in Tejgaon of the capital. Her enthusiasm for this first-time walk on the ramp is palpable.
Recalling a memory from many years ago, Runa shared, “In 2004, during a photoshoot for the fortnightly magazine Anandadhara, Dihan Apu (actress Dihan) persistently encouraged me to grace the ramp. She remarked, “Your height and figure are perfect for the runway”. At that moment, I questioned whether it was my forte. Can I handle it? Acting and walking the ramp are distinct endeavours, and at that time, I valued acting more. I remained unconvinced, thinking, can I really do it?”
Though the inclination didn't materialise in 2004, Runa finally took to the ramp after two decades at the Khadi Festival. Given the festival's focus on domestic products, the country's traditions, and the majority of designers being native, she embraced the opportunity to showcase her presence on the runway.
Reflecting on the experience, Runa said, “I had the privilege of being the showstopper in Maheen Khan-designed attire. This opportunity feels not only like a chance for me but also an honour. Beautician Afroza Parveen reached out to me, providing a thorough explanation of the entire concept. In the end, it turned out to be a fantastic experience.”
