Eminent vocalist Hasina Momtaz's Qulkhwani will be held on February 21 after Asr at Dhanmondi Eidgah Mosque (For Women in her House). She breathed her last at 6:30 pm last Sunday (February 18) due to cardiac arrest. She was 79 years old at the time of death. She is the mother of Professor Shibli Rubaiyat-ul-Islam, Professor of Dhaka University and currently Chairman of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC).
According to family sources, a doa mahfil has been arranged for the departed soul on February 21. Concurrently, a Qulkhwani ceremony for men will take place at Eidgah Mosque in Dhanmondi, while a separate arrangement will be made for women at the residence in Dhanmondi.
It should be noted that Hasina Momtaz was a student of the Department of Geography at Dhaka University (DU). A prominent figure in the music scene of the sixties and seventies, she sought to ignite mass movements through her music, notably in 1969 and 1971. Recognised for her significant contributions to music, she was honored with the Shilpakala Academy Award.
Her husband, Rafiqul Islam Khan, served as the former Managing Director of National Bank Limited.
