April marks the birth anniversary of the late legendary Indian actress Suchitra Sen, one of the most popular heroines of Bengali cinema. The ‘Suchitra Sen International Bengali Film Festival’ will be held at the Jamaica Performing Arts Centre in the New York, United States (US) on April 20 and 21.
Celebrated Indian actress Rituparna Sengupta arrived in Dhaka on Thursday morning to attend the press conference of the festival.
Fashion designer and film producer Pial Hossain welcomed her upon her arrival in Dhaka from the United States to attend the press conference. He said, “Rituparna would return to Kolkata on Friday after participating in the press conference today (Thursday). This is the first time a full-fledged festival will take place. A total of 10 feature films, five documentaries, and five short films will be screened at the three-day ‘Suchitra Sen International Bangla Film Festival’.”
Popular Bangladeshi actor Ferdous Ahmed, who also joined the press meet, and Rituparna jointly unveiled the prizes of the ‘Suchitra Sen International Bengali Film Festival’ at the event. Festival organisers were also present.
Earlier on January 28, Rituparna launched the logo and website of the two-day festival at a ceremony in Jamaica.
Many films have already been submitted to the festival, from which selections will be made for display. A press conference has been organized in Dhaka to provide details about the festival.
Veteran Bangladeshi filmmaker Morshedul Islam, Indian filmmaker Bedabrata Pyne, and film teacher Mary Lee Grisanti of New York's School of Visual Arts will serve as judges for the festival.
