Today marks the birthdays of two prominent figures in Bangladesh's entertainment industry: Sumona Haque, known as the Jingle Queen, and popular actress Aruna Biswas.
Sumona Haque's journey in the world of jingles began with her voice in the ‘Peps Gel’ advertisement, guided by Foad Nasser Babu. Her melodious voice has since become synonymous with numerous popular commercial jingles, including ‘Manella Maner Tolmol Shishirer Labonno,’ ‘Rani Rani Rani Rani Kon Rani Bourani,’ and ‘Ole Ole Pappa Sona Jadu Monire.’ Beyond jingles, Sumona is also an accomplished singer, having released notable songs like ‘Majhe Kichu Bochor Gelo’ and ‘Mayabi Ei Rate,’ as well as an album of Rabindra Sangeet.
Reflecting on the current music scene, Sumona acknowledges the talent of today's singers but expresses concern about the overuse of instruments in melodic songs. She advocates for showcasing the natural vocal abilities of talented artists.
Aruna Biswas made her cinematic debut in ‘Chapa Dangar Bou’ alongside the late actor Raj Razzak. Her performance immediately resonated with audiences, leading to roles in numerous popular films. Despite her success, Biswas expressed a tinge of regret for not receiving a National Film Award for her acting. However, she has been honored with the announcement of a Shilpakala Padak, though the award ceremony has been delayed due to scheduling conflicts with the President's office.
Aruna remains grateful for her artistic journey and the enduring love from her audience. She has also ventured into film production and direction with her government-funded project ‘Ashombhob.’ Additionally, Biswas serves as an esteemed member of the Bangladesh Film Censor Board and aspires to continue acting throughout her life.
On her birthday, Biswas shared her current state of mind, expressing concern for her mother's recent surgery in Canada and her desire to be by her side. She requested prayers for her mother's good health and expressed gratitude for her life's blessings.
