Sabina Yasmin, the celebrated ‘Songbird’ of Bangladesh's music scene, marks another year around the sun today. Known for her significant contributions to patriotic and film songs, the legendary artist shared her thoughts on celebrating her birthday amidst the country's current situation.

In a statement, Yasmin revealed that she has no special plans for her birthday this year. “I'll be staying at home. Given the current state of our country, I don't feel particularly inclined to celebrate. These are different times,” she expressed.

The singer emphasised the importance of focusing on national development. “Now is the time to rebuild our country properly. Once everything returns to normal, perhaps then we can think about personal celebrations,” Sabina Yasmin added.

Reflecting on past birthdays, Yasmin shared nostalgic memories of her family. “I miss my parents and sisters deeply on my birthday. But I try to overcome that sadness with the love I receive from everyone,” she reminisced, recalling how she used to save new clothes for her birthday, much like for Eid celebrations.

Sabina Yasmin's musical journey began in 1962 as a child artiste in the film ‘Notun Sur.’ However, her breakthrough as a playback singer came in 1967 with the song ‘Modhu Jochna Dipali’ from the movie ‘Agun Niye Khela.’

Throughout her illustrious career, Sabina Yasmin has received numerous accolades, including the Ekushey Padak in 1984, the Independence Day Award in 1996, and a record 14 National Film Awards.

As she celebrates another year, Sabina Yasmin's humble request remains, “I seek everyone's blessings - may Allah keep us all healthy and well. I pray for everyone's wellbeing with their families.”
