An art exhibition titled "From Suffering to Liberation: Buddha of Bengal" is beginning today at Alliance Française de Dhaka (AFD). The opening ceremony of the exhibition will be held at 5 pm at AFD's La Galerie.
Organised by the Oriental Painting Study Group and curated by Mikhail I Islam from Learning Design Studio, the event will be inaugurated by the Buddhist Vante Sanghananda Mohathero, High Priest of Sylhet Bouddho Bihara, as the chief guest. MS Nilu Rowshon Murshed, Chairperson of Abinta Gallery of Fine Arts; François Grosjean, Director of AFD; and Dr. Saymon Zakaria, a Bangladeshi folk researcher and Deputy Director of the Development of Culture at Bangla Academy, will attend the ceremony as special guests.
Bringing together 50 artists from Bangladesh and West Bengal, India, this exhibit explores traditional expressions of Buddhist Sacred Art within the region. The exhibition seeks to capture the profound power and salvific nature of Buddhist Art, which has always served as a crucial aid in guiding souls from their existential suffering to ultimate spiritual liberation.
The exhibition will remain open to all until May 15 and can be visited according to the following schedule: Monday to Saturday from 3 pm to 9 pm. It will be closed on Sundays.
The exhibition features artworks of 50 artists from Bangladesh and India.
