Bangla Academy is going to confer Nazrul Padak 2023 (Nazrul Award 2023) on eminent Nazrul singer Shaheen Samad, acknowledging her contribution to the promotion and dissemination of Nazrul songs.
In a press release issued by Bangla Academy on Thursday, it was announced that in celebration of the 124th birth anniversary of the national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, Bangla Academy is organising a programme on May 24. The programme will feature a solo speech, the handing over of the Nazrul Padak, and a cultural session.
"The Nazrul Award 2023 will be presented to Shaheen Samad at this event. The monetary value of the Nazrul Award is 2 Lakh Taka," the announcement stated.
Commenting on receiving the Nazrul Padak 2023, Shaheen Samad said, "I am delighted and grateful to Bangla Academy for honouring me with this award, which recognises my contribution to Nazrul songs."
Shaheen Samad expressed his enjoyment in teaching Nazrul songs, stating, "I thoroughly enjoy the task of teaching music. Many young people are deeply interested in learning Nazrul songs, and I feel great satisfaction in imparting knowledge to them."
Singer Shaheen Samad is one of the torch bearers of Nazrul songs in Bangladesh. She is a former artiste of the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, the station which inspired millions across the Nation during the Liberation War in 1971.
