Debashish Biswas, the son of the famous filmmaker Dilip Biswas, has earned popularity as a presenter and director with his brilliant works. His directorial debut film, 'Shoshurbari Zindabad,' was commercially successful. Recently, the inaugural ceremony of his new film was held in the United States of America. In an exclusive interview with Nisha Mahmuda of The Daily Messenger, he shared insights about his recent and future projects. Here are some excerpts from the interview:

The Daily Messenger (TDM): What are you busy with now?

Debashish: I am currently very busy with projects both at home and abroad. As you know, I am skilled as both presenter and director, so I am working on projects in both mediums. As a presenter, I am working on some significant projects, including big stage shows in various parts of the USA. That's why I travel there three or four times every year. I am also working on mega shows as a presenter in the country. I am in talks with TV channels for several shows, but I am giving more importance to digital platforms.

Furthermore, I am also working on two new films following the success of my film 'Shoshurbari Zindabad.' One of the films, 'Tumi Jekhane Ami Sekhane,' stars Roshan, Apu Biswas, and Misa Sawdagar, and is being shot in various locations in Bangladesh. Additionally, 'Love in California' is a romantic film that will be entirely filmed in California, which is a first for us.

TDM: Can you tell us more about your new films?

Debashish: I have plans to begin shooting for 'Tumi Jekhane Ami Sekhane' after the upcoming Eid-al-Azha. It's a comedy film where both the hero and heroine play the role of fraudsters. Coincidentally, cheated by others, they decide to deceive people. The story develops from this point. The film incorporates elements of love, drama, and family sentiment, but the primary theme is comedy. Most of the popular comedians in Bangladesh are involved in this film. On the other hand, 'Love in California' revolves around romance and family sentiment.

TDM: 'Love in California' features debutant artistes in the lead roles. Don't you think it's a risk for your project?

Debashish: Yes, the leading characters in 'Love in California' will be portrayed by debutant artistes, while some famed artistes will play the other important roles. Since we are shooting the entire film in California, we tried to include some artistes who live there or are currently residing there.

Certainly, there are some risks involved as they are debutants. However, when I made 'Bhalobasha Zindabad,' I cast Arefin Shuvo and Airin, who were also debutants at the time. No one knew them back then, but the film was commercially successful. If I achieved success by taking risks in 2013, I believe I will also succeed in 2023. Sejan Dewan, the son of the film's producer Dewan Biplob, will play the protagonist in 'Love in California' as the story demands fresh faces.

TDM: Despite being a popular director, why is the number of films not high?

Debashish: I am not sure whether I am popular or not as a director, but I would say that I am popular as a presenter. Perhaps I have achieved some popularity as a director, which is why I am referred to as a popular director. It is true that most popular directors make numerous films, and from that perspective, I do not have many films to my credit. There is a considerable gap between the production of my films. My first film, 'Shosurbari Zindabad,' was released in 2001, and my second film, 'Shubho Bibaho,' was released in 2009, after 8 years. The third film, 'Bhalobasha Zindabad,' was released in 2013, with a gap of four years. The fourth film, 'Chol Palai,' was released in 2017, again with a four-year gap. The fifth film, 'Sasurbari Zindabad 2,' was released after another five years in 2022. I agree that there is a long interval between the release of my films, but now the gap will be minimized as the number of my films increases.
