Babita to receive award at ‘Dallas Bangla Film Festival’

Internationally acclaimed actor Farida Akhtar Poppy, popularly known as Babita, will be awarded at ‘Dallas Bangla Film Festival’ in the USA where Babita starring movie titled ‘Golapi Ekhon Traine’ will be screened as the opening film of the festival. Besides, Babita starrer another movie titled ‘Ashani Sanket’ directed by Oscar-winning director Satyajit Ray will also be screened in this festival which will be held from today till August 6 at the Angelica Film Center in Dallas.

Recently, Babita celebrated her 70th birthday (July 30) with her only son Anik in Canada. She went to meet her son Canada who is a resident of Kitchener. Babita said, “Once upon a time, the talented filmmakers of our country used to make very good movies. Before the independence of the country, the good films of those talented filmmakers did not get a place in international festivals. After the independence of the country, we got the opportunity to show our country's films at international festivals.”

She further said, “Once I got an opportunity to act in Satyajit Ray's ‘Ashani Sanket’ which was widely appreciated worldwide. I represented the film in twenty film arenas where I introduced myself as a Bangladeshi with the flag of Bangladesh in my hand. I informed everyone that I am a Bangladeshi girl. The time has changed now, this ‘Dallas Bangla Film Festival’ is going to be around me only. The Honorable Mayor of Dallas will hand over the honor to me. This honor and achievement are not mine alone, it also belongs to my country and my family.”

Babita has been awarded by many organizations locally and internationally including the ‘National Film Award’ and ‘Ajibon Sommanona’ as a recognition of her acting in films. She was last seen in a movie titled ‘Putro Ekhon Poyshawala’ directed by Nargis Akhtar. Since 2012, she has been working relentlessly for the underprivileged children of the country.
