Babita completes 54-year film journey

Veteran actress Farida Akhar Babita, an international icon, recently marked an astonishing 54-year silver-screen journey. With a career spanning across generations, this seven-time National Film Award-winning actress has graced the silver screen in an impressive 275 films, endearing herself to countless fans around the globe.

Reflecting on her illustrious career of 54 years, Babita expressed her gratitude towards several influential individuals who played pivotal roles in her cinematic journey. 

She remarked, "I am immensely grateful to Zahir Raihan, whose courage and inspiration led me into the world of cinema. I must also mention my elder sister Shuchanda, whose name is intertwined with mine in this journey. Additionally, our legendary directors like Khan Ataur Rahman, Narayan Ghosh Mita, Subhash Dutta, Amjad Hossain, Abdullah Al Mamun, Kamal Ahmed, and many others deserve special gratitude. I hold in high esteem the words of the talented heroes of our industry, such as Razzak, Anwar Hossain, Golam Mustafa, and ATM Shamsuzzaman. I enriched my acting skills by learning from them."

Babita emphasized that her motivation to work in cinema was never driven by a desire for wealth. She willingly took on roles in films with captivating stories without demanding remuneration. Her love for cinema and the affection of her audience were the driving forces behind her enduring career. Babita's contributions to Bangladesh's cinema industry have also elevated the country's reputation on the international stage, as she has proudly represented Bangladesh at major film festivals worldwide.

Even today, Babita continues to inspire actresses as a fashion icon in Bangladeshi cinema. This enduring admiration deeply motivates her. Recently, she had discussions with two directors about potential roles in new movies, hinting at the possibility of her return to the industry. Babita mentioned, "A few days ago, I had discussions with two directors. I have two stories in mind, and I found one of them quite appealing. However, until everything is finalized, I cannot make any definitive statements."

If Babita does make a comeback, it holds the promise of revitalizing the Dhallywood industry delighting her devoted fans once more. 

Notably, her last appearance was in Nargis Akhtar's film 'Putra Ekhon Paisawala.'
